About us

The Avon Breast Cancer Crusade started in the UK in 1992 with the sole aim of making a difference to women’s lives everywhere. By the end of 2006 an amazing £13 million had been raised for breast cancer charities (see right) and our commitment remains as strong as ever.

Today, more than 50 Avon countries are part of the Crusade and Representatives, customers and staff have raised a staggering $450 million for research, education, awareness, treatment and aftercare.

Here in the UK, we have also been involved in several major campaigns to raise awareness of the importance of being breast aware while raising money at the same time. These include Kiss Goodbye to Breast Cancer, Fashion Targets Breast Cancer and the Avon Breast Cancer Crusade Awards.

With your help and the continued support of our network of Representatives and customers our aim is to achieve a future free from the fear of breast cancer... we thank you for your interest and generosity. External recognition and VIP endorsements seem to show that we are indeed making a difference but there is still much work to be done.

Breakthrough Breast Cancer
Since 1992 Avon's long-term charity partner has been Breakthrough Breast Cancer during which time the Crusade has contributed over £10 million. Half of this went towards setting up the Breakthrough Toby Robins Breast Cancer Research Centre – the first dedicated facility of its kind in the UK.

Since then the money we provide has made a major contribution to their extensive research programme.

The gene BRCA2, vital in understanding hereditary breast cancer, was isolated by Breakthrough thanks to state-of-the-art equipment funded by Avon. Avon also supports the charity's Clinical Research Fellowship programme – three posts over five years to undertake specific research projects at the centre.

We are also helping support the Breakthrough Generations Study, a major project involving 100,000 women around the country whose lifestyle is being monitored and analysed over 40 years to explore the possible causes of breast cancer. More volunteers are needed.

Macmillan Cancer Support
Between 1994 and 1997 Avon joined forces with Macmillan Cancer Support and raised £1.6 million to fund 15 new Macmillan breast care nurses across the UK. More information at www.macmillan.org.uk

Breast Cancer Care
In 2005 Avon linked up with Breast Cancer Care to fund the work of 32 peer supporters, volunteers who share their personal breast cancer experience with those who are newly-diagnosed or in need of emotional and practical support as they go through their own breast cancer journey.
